La mémoire ouvrière à Vierzon : enjeux et valorisations

Abstract : If a difference of nature exists between, on one side, individual memory, a mental faculty specific to sovereign individual who is especially able to recollect, and, in the other side, social or collective recall, that is a metaphor, a rhetorical figure in other words, which refer to a transcendent social object, are we however allowed to say, in the manner of the American essayiste Susan Sontag, that social memory is only a « stipulation » ? My comment takes place within another perspective. It is a critical extending of the French sociologist Maurice Halbwacks's research. Concretely, it deals with social conditions making possible a valorisation of working-class memory and resultant issues. In order to illustrate my point, I'll rely to two actions conducted in Vierzon (Cher) during the decade of 2010.
