“Como deseo y he menester”: las relaciones de Quevedo con Olivares y Medinaceli en sus dedicatorias (1625-1637)

Abstract : This work is based on Quevedo’s dedications to the Count-Duke of Olivares and to the Duke of Medinaceli, in order to better understand the relations of protection and support between the poet and these two figures. The dedica-tions are compared to other texts dedicated to other figures at Court, in similar times, and to some letters which can bring enlightening explanations on the topic. The so-called opposition to Olivares, even if it should be reconsidered and perhaps minored, seems always perceptible. Its rhetoric expressions are examined, leading to the conclusion that this relation is both made of political distrust and of interest. The step that leads to Medinaceli’s protection appears to be, when its argumentative modalities are studied, the result of a necessity, due to the failure with Olivares and also to a deep and sincere affection.
