Sobre las “desdichas” en el paratexto biográfico de Lope de Vega

Abstract : This article starts with the shield of nineteen towers of the Carpio’s family (Arcadia, 1598) and extracts from the device a keyword: the “desdichas”. Lope connects this word to his life and relationships. This paper aims to reveal the characteristics of the “desdichas” in three biographic paratexts of Lope de Vega: the dedication to his daughter doña Marcela del Carpio (El remedio en la desdicha), to his son Lopito (El verdadero amante) and to his friend Claudio Conde (Querer la propia desdicha). Will also be analysed the connection between the “desdichas” (misfortunes) and Lope de Vega’s portrait published in the beginning of some of his works.
