Représentations et pratiques des mobilités quotidiennes dans l’aire urbaine d’Orléans : Entre anxiété de la durabilité du mode de vie et aspiration à la proximité

Abstract : As part of a regional call for research on mobility and urban forms, this study is a contribution on how the inhabitants of Orleans urban area experience and manage their mobility in a context marked by the daily need to move, by the rising fuel prices and by the injunctions towards soft mobility linked to the urgency of global warming. In order to understand how people manage their practices, how they perceive their environment and their way of life and how they integrate them into their own system of coherence, we analyzed 50 discourses collected from inhabitants of the city center, of the periurban area and of the countryside. Two profiles can be differentiated according to the people’s satisfaction on the way they manage to move around. In the discourses of the inhabitants, the satisfaction is associated with being able to choose and to organize oneself in the best way, according to one’s personal priorities. Compared to previous surveys, this article shows a new concern about the sustainability of the way of life and highlights the yearning, or even the claim, of immobility and of proximity, as values.
