Abstract : There are many types of coinage featuring Germanicus. Some of them were produced by imperial mints, others by “ provincial”, i.e. mostly civic mints. This paper reviews all of them and investigates the way these coins, working as monumenta, present the image of the Prince. We reach the conclusion that coins do not tell the same story : while imperial coins shed some light on aspects of imperial values and ideology, provincial ones, which are actually scarce, reflect rather local points of view. Thus, the memoria of Germanicus is actually manifold. What is most striking is that Germanicus’ monetary image is to be found mostly after his death.
