Emploi précaire, travail indigne : condition salariale moderne dans le nettoyage

Abstract : The cleaning sector has really developed since the 1980s crisis, owing to the development of outsourcing, the expansion of the service sector, its feminization and casualization. The employees, predominantly unskilled women, experience part-time, multi-employment, low wages and often do an extremely demeaning job in hard working conditions. This type of work is indeed perceived as (disgraceful and) shameful and cleaning is a perilous service, whose equity is hard to maintain. Isolated, interchangeable, invisible, transparent and stateless, these “new” employees thus partly represent the evolution of the employees’ position in society. The latter is more and more blurred and the very rights of the salaried employees seem to dissolve in necessity, outsourcing and multi-employment.
