Introduction à une géographie de l'étang et des étangs

Abstract : The authors of this collective work come from several disciplines, both hard sciences and social sciences, but they all favor a geographical approach about small dams. Pond is first studied as a concept, which has to be defined. Pond is then presented as an object, which has to be studied in relation to its environment. Three components are selected: sediments, water temperature and the social role of the pond. Finally, geography aims to characterize the variety of ponds and their spatial groupings, particularly in chains and regions.
